Prayer Flags originated in Tibet. The Indigenous Tibet used them originally as protection with Mantras written on the flags. Later in Tibetan Buddhism, the auspicious flags had prayers and mantras written on them with the intention of the wind to carry the prayers of hope, compassion and peace out to all sentient beings.
The five colors of the flags represent the harmony of five elements in balance; blue=sky and space, white=air and wind, red=fire, green=water and yellow=earth.
These flags include flags of the Windhorse, Goddess Tara, and Meditation Buddha.
